Kathy Howse correctly identified the beach debris as a flash cube from a Starflash camera.  The cubes had four sides and would rotate to a new side when the film was advanced. Interesting that the copper and metal parts of the flash tube have been eaten away by the salt water but all the plastic remains to provide permanent ocean debris.
